Stillhouse Hollow Lake is a large lake in Texas. It was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This group builds and manages many water projects in the United States. The lake is on the Lampasas River, about 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Belton.
The lake was officially filled with water in 1968. Its main job is to help control floods for towns downstream. It also provides drinking water for several nearby communities. Stillhouse Hollow Lake is a very popular place for outdoor fun. People sometimes call it Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir.
Lake Levels and Drought
Stillhouse Hollow Lake's water level can change a lot. This depends on how much rain falls. In 2011, Central Texas had a very bad drought. A drought is a long period with very little rain.
During this time, the lake's water level dropped to its lowest point ever. It went below the previous record set in 1989. At the end of 2011, the lake was much lower than usual.
