Stockton is a lively neighborhood located in the heart of San Diego, California. It is an urban community, meaning it's a busy part of the city.
Stockton is surrounded by other neighborhoods. To the north, you'll find Golden Hill. To the east are Mountain View and Mt. Hope. Grant Hill is to the west, and Logan Heights is to the south. A major highway, I-15, forms the eastern border of the neighborhood. Stockton is also part of a larger area called the Southeastern Planning Area.

Who Was Robert Field Stockton?
Stockton got its name from a very important person named Robert Field Stockton. He lived from 1795 to 1866. Robert Field Stockton was a U.S. Navy commodore, which is a high-ranking naval officer.
Stockton's Role in California
During the Mexican–American War, Robert Field Stockton played a big part in helping the United States gain control of California. He was a key leader in naval operations during this time.
An Innovator and Politician
Stockton was also known for being a smart inventor in the Navy. He was one of the first people to suggest that naval ships should use propellers and steam power. This was a very new idea back then! Besides his military career, Stockton came from a well-known political family. He even served as a U.S. Senator for the state of New Jersey.
Local Schools
There used to be a school called Stockton Elementary in the neighborhood. However, its name was changed. It is now known as King-Chavez Academy Tk-5th. This school helps young students from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade.
