Stonewall is a small community in Gillespie County, Texas, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a specific area the government counts for population. In 2020, about 451 people lived there.
Stonewall got its name from a famous Confederate General, Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson. A person named Israel P. Nunez named it in 1870. He set up a place for stagecoaches to stop nearby.

History of Stonewall
Stonewall was named in 1870 by Israel P. Nunez. He created a stage station in the area. A stage station was a place where horse-drawn carriages, called stagecoaches, could stop. Travelers could rest and change horses there.
This community was also the home of Lyndon B. Johnson, who became the 36th President of the United States. His family's ranch, known as the "LBJ Ranch," is located very close to Stonewall.

Stonewall is located in the eastern part of Gillespie County. It sits along the Pedernales River in a beautiful area called the Texas Hill Country. This region is known for its rolling hills and scenic views.
A main road, U.S. Route 290, goes right through Stonewall. If you travel west on this road, you'll reach Fredericksburg in about 14 miles. Fredericksburg is the main town of Gillespie County. If you go east for about 15 miles, you'll arrive at Johnson City. Stonewall is also about 63 miles west of Austin and 71 miles north of San Antonio.
The total area of Stonewall is about 39.4 square kilometers (about 15.2 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. The Pedernales River flows through the northern part of the town.
