Subway Surfers is a super popular mobile game that came out in 2012. It's an endless runner game, which means you keep playing until your character crashes. The game was made by two companies from Denmark, Kiloo and SYBO Games. You can play it on many devices like iOS (for iPhones and iPads) and Android phones.

In Subway Surfers, you play as young graffiti artists. The main character is Jake. When they get caught drawing on a metro railway site, they have to run away! An inspector and his dog chase them through the train tracks. As you run, you collect gold coins and cool power-ups. You also need to dodge trains and other obstacles. You can even jump on top of trains or use hoverboards to escape. The game ends if you hit something, get caught, or get hit by a train. There are also special events like Season Hunts where you can win rewards and new characters. You can use points and keys to buy different outfits and characters too!

How to Play Subway Surfers

Subway Surfers is an exciting endless runner game. To start, you just tap the screen. Your character, usually Jake, sprays some graffiti. Then, the inspector and his dog spot you and start chasing!

While running, you need to swipe your finger up, down, left, or right. This helps you avoid crashing into things. Watch out for moving trains, poles, tunnel walls, and barriers! The faster you swipe and move, the more points you get. If you crash, the game is over. But don't worry, you can use keys or watch a short ad to keep playing.

You can pick up many helpful items during your run. These include coins, keys, and special power-ups.

  • Super Sneakers let you jump really high.
  • Jetpacks give you the ability to fly above the tracks.
  • Coin Magnets pull all the coins towards you.
  • x2 Multipliers double your score for a short time.
  • Mystery Boxes give you surprise rewards.
  • Pogo Sticks launch your character high into the air.

You can also use a hoverboard by double-tapping the screen. Hoverboards protect you from crashing for about 30 seconds. They are super useful!

Daily Challenges and Missions

The game has fun challenges to keep you busy. Daily Challenges ask you to collect letters to spell a word, like "score" or "jump." This is also called a "word hunt." Season Hunts also give you rewards for playing well.

There are also Missions with different tasks to complete. You can unlock many characters and hoverboards. Some characters need coins or keys. Others might need you to collect special items or connect to Facebook. Most characters have two different outfits. Each hoverboard has unique abilities that can help you in the game. When the game updates to a new city, a new character and hoverboard often appear for a limited time.

Game Release and Popularity

Subway Surfers first came out on May 24, 2012. At first, updates were based on holidays. But since January 2013, the game has been on a "World Tour." This means the game's setting changes to a new city every three or four weeks.

Subway Surfers became incredibly popular. In March 2018, it was the first game on the Google Play Store to be downloaded over one billion times! By May 2018, it had reached two billion downloads. It was also reported to be the second most downloaded game ever on the iOS App Store.

By December 2019, Subway Surfers had been downloaded more than 2.7 billion times. It was even the most downloaded mobile game of the entire decade, from 2012 to 2019!

A new game called Subway Surfers Tag was released in 2022. It is only available on Apple Arcade.

Subway Surfers: The Animated Series

On June 1, 2018, a cartoon series based on the game started. It debuted on SYBO Games' YouTube channel. The series has 11 episodes, each about four minutes long. It was written by Brent Friedman and Francesca Marie Smith. The show was produced by Sander Schwartz. Chris Bartleman was the supervising director, and Michael Hegner was the director.
