A Look Back at Summitville's History
Summitville was founded in 1867. It got its name because it's located on a slightly higher piece of land, like a "summit."
An important old building, the Joseph & Lucinda Thawley House, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. This means it's recognized as a special historical place.

Summitville is in the northeastern part of Madison County. It is about 6 miles (10 km) north of Alexandria. It is also about 17 miles (27 km) north of Anderson, which is the main city of the county.
The U.S. Census Bureau says Summitville covers a total area of 0.57 square miles (1.47 square kilometers). All of this area is land. A small stream called Mud Creek starts near the town. It flows south and joins Pipe Creek, which then flows into the White River.

Famous People from Summitville
- Jay Stewart was born in Summitville. He was a well-known announcer for game shows.
- Roy Danforth graduated from Summitville High School in 1954. He became a successful basketball coach for Syracuse and Tulane University. He led Syracuse to the Final Four in the 1975 NCAA tournament. He is also a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
