The festival has three main stages where you can hear live music. There are tons of different music styles, like Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Funk, Latin, Reggae, Blues, and many kinds of Rock & Roll. You can also find Jazz, Bluegrass, Country, Folk, and Electronic music.
The Story of SunFest
The very first SunFest happened in 1982. It lasted for 10 days! The people who organized it had some money problems at first. So, in 1984, they made the festival shorter, only three days long.
By 1986, they started charging a small fee to get in, which was $2. The festival grew bigger again, and by 1992, it lasted five days. In 2014, a ticket cost about $25 at the gate. The biggest crowd ever at SunFest was in 1991, with 345,000 people! In 2018, the festival went back to being four days long.
Fun Things to Do at SunFest
SunFest has many cool activities, often called "SunFestivities." These can change a bit each year.
- Battle of the Bands: Here, different bands compete to show off their musical talent.
- Floating Themed Bars: These are unique places to grab a drink right on the water.
- TGi5k: This is a fun 5K run that happens during the festival.
- Art District: You can watch artists create amazing things live. Sometimes, there are even performances!
A favorite part for many people is the amazing fireworks show at the end of the festival. It's a spectacular way to finish the fun and makes everyone excited for the next SunFest!
Who Organizes SunFest?
SunFest was started in 1982 by a group called SunFest of Palm Beach County Inc. This group has about 25 people on its main team, along with many committees and over 80 sponsors.
One important sponsor is the Palm Beach Cultural Council. They help fund SunFest every year. They do this to encourage art and culture in the Palm Beach area. Other groups, like the state of Florida, also help make the festival possible.
SunFest is a special kind of organization called a 501(c)3 non-profit. This means they don't try to make money for themselves. Instead, any money they get goes back into putting on the festival and helping the community.
