Sunrise is a small community in Minnesota, United States. It is not a city with its own government. Instead, it is an unincorporated community within Sunrise Township. This township is located in Chisago County.
The community is found east-northeast of North Branch. It sits where Chisago County Road 9 and River Road meet. The Sunrise River flows right through the community. Other towns nearby include Harris and Almelund. Sunrise is also close to the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin, near the St. Croix River.
History of Sunrise
People first settled in Sunrise around the year 1853. The name "Sunrise" comes from the native Ojibwe language. It is an English translation of their original name for the area. Sunrise also had its own post office for a long time. It was open from 1856 until 1954.
