Susan Dunklee (born February 13, 1986) is a retired American biathlete. A biathlete is an athlete who competes in biathlon, a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Susan is known for being the first American woman to win an individual medal at the Biathlon World Championships.

All About Susan Dunklee
Early Life and Sports
Susan Dunklee grew up in Barton, Vermont. She started skiing when she was only two years old. By age seven, she was already competing in cross-country skiing races.
For high school, Susan went to St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont. Later, she studied ecology at Dartmouth College. While at Dartmouth, she joined the college's ski team, which won a National Championship in 2007. She was also a double All-American in cross-country skiing, which means she was recognized as one of the best college athletes in her sport.
Starting Biathlon
Susan began practicing biathlon during her last year at Dartmouth College. This sport combines the speed and endurance of cross-country skiing with the precision of rifle shooting. It requires athletes to be very fit and focused.
Her family has a history in winter sports. Her father, Stan Dunklee, was a champion cross-country skier and competed in the 1976 Winter Olympics and 1980 Winter Olympics. Her uncle, Everett Dunklee, also competed in cross-country skiing at the 1972 Winter Olympics.
Her Biathlon Career
Susan Dunklee made her debut in the Biathlon World Cup on December 1, 2011. The World Cup is a series of international competitions for top biathletes.
One of her early successes was at the Biathlon World Championships 2012 in Ruhpolding. She finished fifth in the individual event, which was a new best for an American woman at that time.
In 2013, Susan was chosen to be part of the American team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She also competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.
World Championship Medals
Susan achieved a major milestone on February 19, 2017. At the Biathlon World Championships 2017 in Hochfilzen, she won a silver medal in the 12.5 km mass start event. This was a historic moment because she became the first American woman to win an individual medal at either the Olympics or the World Championships in biathlon.
She won another silver medal at the Biathlon World Championships 2020 in Antholz. This time, it was in the 7.5 km sprint event. These two silver medals are her biggest achievements in the sport.
Susan Dunklee retired from biathlon at the end of the 2021-2022 season. She had a long and successful career, inspiring many young athletes.
