Täby (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈtɛ̌ːbʏ]) is a place in Sweden, located in Stockholm County. It used to be a separate "locality," which means a defined urban area. In 2024, about 76,700 people lived there.
Since 2016, Täby has become part of the larger Stockholm urban area. This means it's now considered a part of the big city of Stockholm by Statistics Sweden, which collects information about the country.
Täby is the main town, or "seat," of Täby Municipality. A municipality is like a local government area. Täby also used to stretch into small parts of two other municipalities: Danderyd Municipality (specifically the Enebyberg area) and a tiny bit of Sollentuna Municipality.
However, a different part called Täby kyrkby, located in the northern part of Täby Municipality, is actually part of the Vallentuna urban area.
Täby's Population Over Time
Täby has grown and changed over the years. In 2000, about 57,834 people lived in the main Täby area. Most of these people lived within Täby Municipality.
A smaller number of people in Täby lived in Danderyd Municipality (around 4,701 people in 2000). A very small number, only 11 people, lived in the part of Täby that was in Sollentuna Municipality back then.
Overall, in 2000, Täby was home to a significant part of the population in these municipalities. For example, 88.25% of the people in Täby Municipality lived in the Täby urban area.
