About the Taipei Story House
The Taipei Story House was built a long time ago, between 1913 and 1914. This was when Japan ruled Taiwan. A rich tea merchant named Tan Tiau-chun had it built. He was from a place called Daitōtei. The house was a special place for important visitors. It hosted local leaders and guests from other countries.
Building Design and Features
The building has a unique design. The first floor is made of strong bricks. The upper floors are built with wood. They feature a style called English Tudor. This means they have decorative wooden beams on the outside.
Inside, the staircase looks like a pagoda. A pagoda is a tall, many-storied tower often found in Asia. Above the main entrance, there is a special window. It has colorful stained glass in green, yellow, and red. The house also has two fireplaces. These fireplaces are decorated with many Art Nouveau tiles. Art Nouveau is an old art style with flowing lines and natural shapes. The ceiling lamps also have cool patterns. These patterns are raised designs of flowers.
