Taka's Early Life and Musical Journey
Taka Hirose started playing the bass guitar when he was 14 years old. This was during his time in secondary school. He played in different types of bands back then. These included both jazz and metal groups.
After finishing school, Taka moved to Tokyo, Japan. There, he worked for a company called ESP. They are specialists in making guitars. At night, he also worked at a bar in the city.
Moving to London and Joining Feeder
In 1992, Taka decided to move to London, England. His plan was to study graphic design. But he also wanted to keep playing music. He saw an advertisement in a local magazine called Loot. The ad was from Grant Nicholas and Jon Lee. They were looking for a bass player for their new band. This band would later become Feeder.
A few days later, Taka met Jon Lee at Camden Station. They went to Grant Nicholas's house. This is where the band Feeder officially started.
Feeder's Rise to Fame
As Feeder started to become more popular, Taka thought about quitting. He had only planned for music to be a hobby. He didn't want to leave his job at a newspaper office. But Grant and Jon convinced him to stay. With support from his wife, Taka left his old job to focus on music.
Feeder gained a lot of praise for their first release, Swim. Their first full album, Polythene, also did very well. The band then had a big breakthrough with their next album, Yesterday Went Too Soon. This album reached the Top Ten in the music charts.
Continuing After a Difficult Time
In January 2002, Feeder had been enjoying the success of their third album, Echo Park. Sadly, Jon Lee passed away suddenly. Taka returned to Japan to be with his family and friends during this difficult time.
After thinking carefully, Taka and Grant Nicholas decided to continue the band. Later that year, they started working on their fourth album, Comfort in Sound. Mark Richardson joined them as the new drummer. They followed this with the album Pushing The Senses. Both albums were very successful. They both reached the top 10 on the UK albums chart. A singles album released in 2006 was also very popular.
Later Albums and New Drummers
Feeder's 2008 album, Silent Cry, also made it into the top 10. However, it didn't stay on the charts for long. Their 2010 album, Renegades, didn't reach the top 10. But many fans felt it brought the band back to their original sound. For this album, Karl Brazil became the drummer. Mark Richardson had returned to his previous band, Skunk Anansie.
Taka's Other Music Projects
Besides his work with Feeder, Taka also creates electronic music on his own. He often plays all the instruments himself, including the bass. He releases these recordings under the name "Funkybottom". He has also remixed some Feeder songs, like "Tracing Lines". He also remixed "Free Your Mind," which was a short song meant for the Silent Cry album.
In 2011, Taka played on a song called "Hide and Seek" by Inoran. In June 2012, Taka teamed up with Inoran again. They also joined with Feeder's support guitarist, Dean Tidey. Together, they formed a new band called Muddy Apes.

As a member of Feeder, Taka Hirose was honored in the Kerrang! Hall of Fame. This happened on August 9, 2019.
