Talca Province (which is Provincia de Talca in Spanish) is a cool place in the middle of Chile. It is one of four provinces that make up the Maule Region (also known as Region VII). The main city and capital of Talca Province is Talca.

How Talca Province is Run

Talca Province is a part of Chile's government system. It's like a big area with its own local rules. A person called the Presidential Provincial Delegate is in charge. This person is chosen by the President to help run things in the province.

Areas within the Province

Talca Province is divided into ten smaller areas called communes. Each commune has its own local government. This government is made up of an alcalde (who is like a mayor) and a municipal council (a group of people who help make decisions).

Exploring the Geography

Talca Province has a very interesting landscape. To the east, you'll find the slopes of the mighty Andes mountains. These mountains cover a big part of the province. To the west, there's another large area covered by the Chilean Coast Range.

In between these two mountain ranges is Chile's central valley. This valley is a flat area that slopes gently to the south. It's very fertile, meaning the soil is great for growing crops. The mountainous parts of the province are also full of trees, making them well-wooded.

Population and People

According to a count done in 2002 by the National Statistics Institute (called INE), Talca Province covers an area of about 9,937.8 square kilometers. At that time, about 352,966 people lived there. This means there were about 35.5 people living in each square kilometer.

Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people living in the province grew quite a bit. The population increased by 12.4%, which means 39,015 more people moved there or were born there during that time.
