The name "Talmo" comes from the Creek language. It means "home of the Chief Tallassee." This shows the area's connection to its early Native American roots.

U.S. Route 129 runs right through Talmo. This road connects Talmo to other important cities. If you go northwest on Route 129, you will reach Gainesville in about 11 miles. Going southeast for about 10 miles will take you to Jefferson. Jefferson is the main city and county seat of Jackson County.
