Tatiana Anatolyevna Tarasova was born on February 13, 1947. She is a famous Russian figure skating coach and adviser to the national figure skating team. Tatiana Tarasova has coached more world and Olympic champions than any other coach in the history of skating. Her students have won many gold medals at the Olympic Games, European Figure Skating Championships, and World Figure Skating Championships.

About Tatiana Tarasova
Tatiana Tarasova's father was Anatoly Tarasov, a very well-known ice hockey coach. He introduced her to figure skating when she was just five years old. For over ten years, she lived in Simsbury, Connecticut, in the United States. In 2006, she moved back to Russia. Her husband, Vladimir Krainev, passed away in April 2011.
Her Skating Career
Tatiana Tarasova competed in pair skating. She skated with two partners, Aleksandr Tikhomirov and Georgi Proskurin. With Georgi Proskurin, she won medals twice at the Soviet Figure Skating Championships. They placed 7th at the 1965 World Figure Skating Championships and 4th at the 1966 European Figure Skating Championships. When she was 18 years old, Tatiana had an injury that stopped her from competing further.
Coaching the Stars
Tatiana Tarasova started coaching at age 19, encouraged by her father. She became one of the most successful figure skating coaches ever. Her students have won many top awards, including Olympic and World titles.
Some of her most famous students include:
- Alexei Yagudin: She coached him to win three World Championships and an Olympic gold medal in 2002.
- Ilia Kulik: He won an Olympic gold medal in 1998 under her coaching.
- Natalia Bestemianova and Andrei Bukin: They won four World Championships and an Olympic gold medal in 1988.
- Oksana Grishuk and Evgeni Platov: They won the 1997 World Championship and an Olympic gold medal in 1998.
- Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov: She coached them during their professional skating period.
- Marina Klimova and Sergey Ponomarenko: They won the 1992 World Championships and an Olympic gold medal.
- Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaitsev: They won four World Championships and two Olympic gold medals in 1976 and 1980.
- Mao Asada: She coached Asada from 2008 to 2010, during which Asada won the 2010 World title and an Olympic silver medal.
- Shizuka Arakawa: She helped Arakawa win the World Championships in 2004 and an Olympic gold medal in 2006.
Tatiana Tarasova also created an ice ballet show called Russian All-Stars in the mid-1980s. She coached for ten years at the International Skating Center in Simsbury, Connecticut, before retiring from full-time coaching in 2006 and moving back to Russia. She is often assisted by choreographer Jeanetta Folle.
Awards and Recognition
Tatiana Tarasova has received many important awards for her contributions to sports.
- In 1984, she was given the Order of Friendship of Peoples.
- In March 2008, she was honored by being added to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
- She also received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 3rd class, in 1998 for her students' achievements at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
- In 2007, she received the Order of Honour for her great work in developing sports.
- She has also been recognized as an Honoured Coach of the USSR and RSFSR, and a Master of Sports of international class.
