The Tatnall School is a private school in New Castle County, Delaware. It helps students get ready for college. The school is located near Wilmington, Delaware, and has a large campus.
Tatnall School teaches students from two years old all the way up to 12th grade. It was started in 1930 by Frances Dorr Swift Tatnall. At first, it was only for girls and was in downtown Wilmington, Delaware. In 1952, the school moved to its current location. That same year, boys also started to attend Tatnall. The school's mascot is the hornet, and its motto is "Omnia in caritate," which means "all things in love."
Arts and Creativity
Tatnall School has many programs for visual and performing arts. Students can learn photography, drawing, and play musical instruments or sing. In September 2007, the school opened its Laird Performing Arts Center. This center is very big, with a theater that can seat 471 people.
The arts program at Tatnall puts on an annual Showcase. This show features students from the advanced theater class. A famous former teacher, Wilson Somers, taught at Tatnall. He is a composer and performer who won an Emmy award in 2000. Students at the school are required to take art classes. They have won many state awards for their artistic talents over the years.
A Special Visitor
In 2008, The Tatnall School was used as a place for people to vote in the United States presidential election. Senator Joe Biden, who lived near the school, cast his vote in the school's main lobby. Some of Joe Biden's grandchildren also attended Tatnall School.
