Muhammad Taufik bin Batisah (born on December 10, 1981) is a famous singer, songwriter, and actor from Singapore. He is best known for winning the very first season of the TV show Singapore Idol.

Early Life and School
Taufik grew up in a Malay family with roots from both India and the Bugis community. He went to Jurong Primary School and Jurong Secondary School. Later, he studied at Singapore Polytechnic.
Music Career Highlights
Taufik started his music journey as a singer in a local group called Bonafide. They played a mix of hip hop and R&B music.
Winning Singapore Idol
In 2004, Taufik joined the first season of the reality TV show Singapore Idol. On December 1, 2004, he became the first-ever Singapore Idol! This happened at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in front of over 8,000 fans and 1.8 million TV viewers. He won a recording deal with Sony BMG. Taufik received 682,000 votes out of 1.1 million votes cast that night.
After winning, Taufik became the face of many popular brands like Samsung and 7-Eleven. He was also the first Singaporean artist to work with the Swiss watch company, Swatch.
First Albums and Success
On January 14, 2005, Taufik released his first English album, Blessings. It included popular songs he sang on Singapore Idol like Me and Mrs Jones and I Dream. Taufik also helped write a song called Close 2 You. Blessings sold an amazing 36,000 copies, setting a record in the Singapore Guinness Book of Records as the best-selling local English album in a decade. This record is still unbroken!
In 2006, Taufik released his second album, All Because of You. He wrote and produced eight of the songs on this album. It had both English and Malay songs. The Malay songs, like Usah Lepaskan, Sesuatu Janji, and Sombong, became huge hits in the Malay music world. He won many awards, including Most Popular Male Artiste at the regional Anugerah Planet Muzik 2006 and Favourite Artist Singapore at the 2006 MTV Asia Awards. He was also voted the Winner of Kid's Choice Wannabe Award (Singapore) in 2006 and 2007.
Continued Achievements
Taufik kept shining as a top artist in Singapore. He won Most Popular Male Personality at Suria's Pesta Perdana 2007. At the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2007, he won Most Popular Artiste (Singapore), Most Popular Song – Usah Lepaskan (Singapore), and Best Local Song – Usah Lepaskan. His song Usah Lepaskan was also the Number 1 Song of the Year on Ria 89.7FM.
In 2007, he released his Malaysian album, Teman Istimewa (Special Friend). Taufik produced most of this album. One song, Seribu Tahun (A Thousand Years), which he co-wrote, became a big hit in Malaysia.
In 2008, Taufik won more awards at Anugerah Planet Muzik 2008, including Most Popular Artiste (Singapore) and Best Singapore Artiste. He also received the Singapore Youth Award for his achievements in music. His song Berserah was the No. 1 Song of the Year on RIA 89.7FM.
Taufik also launched his fourth album, Suria Hatiku (Light of My Heart). This album had many different types of songs and produced several No. 1 hits like Gadis Itu (That Girl) and Nafasku (My Breathe).
International Recognition
Taufik was named the Most Popular Singapore Artiste for the third year in a row at the Anugerah Planet Muzik Award 2009. He performed at Singapore Day 2009 in London and represented Singapore at the ASEAN – Korea Commemorative Summit in Korea. He also performed at APEC Singapore 2009.
In 2010, Taufik performed at the Chingay Parade finale. He also won six major awards at the first AnugeraHitz.sg Awards, which celebrates the best in local Malay music. That year, he also started acting in a musical called Fried Rice Paradise – The Musical.
In 2011, he released an Eid ul-Fitr album, Kenangan Di Hari Raya (Memories on Eid), with Hady Mirza. He also wrote and recorded a duet song, Aku Bersahaja (Simply Me), with Indonesian singer Rossa. This song became his eighth Malay No. 1 radio hit. For all his achievements, he was honored as Yahoo! "Singapore Most Influential Person in Entertainment 2011".
In 2012, his song Usah Lepaskan was voted the Most Iconic Song in 55 years of Malay music in Singapore. He released a new English single, Sky's The Limit, featuring singer-actress Rui En, which reached No. 1 on 98.7 FM Top 20 Countdown Chart for two weeks.
Taufik represented Singapore at the first ABU TV Song Festival 2012 in Seoul, South Korea. He performed Usah Lepaskan alongside other famous artists from across Asia. He also received significant recognition from Korea's Mnet Asia Music Awards (MAMA) for Best Asian Artist (Singapore).
Recent Works
On October 1, 2014, Taufik released his fifth album, Fique. He produced, arranged, and wrote almost all the songs on it. The album featured duets with rapper Altimet and singer Shila Amzah. Critics praised Fique as a strong comeback album.
At the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2014, Taufik won three awards: Most Popular Song (Singapore), Most Popular Artist, and Social Media Icon. He won the most awards of any artist that year.
In 2018, Taufik represented Singapore at the ASEAN-JAPAN Music Festival in Tokyo. In 2019, he performed the National Day Parade 2019 theme song "Our Singapore" with other well-known Singaporean artists. In 2022, he performed the National Day Parade theme song "Stronger Together".
Other Ventures
In July 2018, Taufik opened a restaurant called 'Chix Hot Chicken' with his friend Bober Ismail. It serves fried chicken in the "Nashville-style." In September 2019, Taufik also became a registered property agent with his elder brother Mustaffa, starting a business called Batisah Bros Property.
