This city used to be part of Port Arthur's "extraterritorial jurisdiction." This means Port Arthur had some control over the area, even though it wasn't officially part of the city.
On September 10, 2005, the people of Taylor Landing voted to become their own city. Out of 124 votes, 80 people (about 64.5%) wanted to form a new city, and 44 people (about 35.5%) did not.
Taylor Landing is part of a larger area called the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area. Even though it was once linked to Port Arthur, people living in Taylor Landing have a Beaumont, Texas address.

Taylor Landing is located almost in the middle of Jefferson County. It is about 13 miles (21 km) west of Port Arthur.
Texas State Highway 73 runs along the southern edge of the city. This highway goes east to Port Arthur and west about 15 miles (24 km) to Winnie.
