Taylor Schilling (born July 27, 1984) is an American actress. She is well-known for playing Piper Chapman in the Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black. This show ran from 2013 to 2019. For her role, she was nominated for important awards like the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and two Golden Globe Awards.
Taylor first appeared in a movie in 2007, a drama called Dark Matter. She also starred as Nurse Veronica Flanagan Callahan in the TV show Mercy from 2009 to 2010. Her other movies include Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011), the romantic drama The Lucky One (2012), the comedy Take Me (2017), and the science-fiction thriller The Titan (2018).

Taylor Schilling was born on July 27, 1984. Her mother, Patricia, worked at MIT, and her father, Robert J. Schilling, was a lawyer. Taylor grew up in West Roxbury and Wayland. Her parents were divorced, so she split her time between their homes.
When she was young, Taylor loved the TV show ER. She started acting at a young age. In middle school, she joined the theater program. She performed in a play called Fiddler on the Roof.
After finishing Wayland High School in 2002, Taylor went to Fordham University. She studied there and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2006. She also kept acting in school plays. Later, she joined a graduate acting program at New York University. However, she left after her second year. While trying to become an actress, she worked as a nanny in Manhattan to support herself.

Starting Out: 2007 to 2012
Taylor Schilling won an award for her great performance at the Emerson College Playwright's Festival. Her first movie role was in the independent film Dark Matter in 2007.
In 2009, she starred in the NBC medical drama series Mercy. She played a former military nurse who came home after serving in Iraq. The show's creator, Liz Heldens, was very impressed when Taylor auditioned. Mercy aired for one season, from September 2009 to May 2010.
The next year, Taylor played the main character, Dagny Taggart, in the movie Atlas Shrugged: Part I. This film was based on a famous novel. Critics did not give the movie good reviews.
In 2012, Taylor starred with Zac Efron in the romantic drama The Lucky One. This movie was based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks. Even though the movie got negative reviews, it earned over $99.4 million worldwide. Taylor was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for her role in the movie. In 2013, she had a small part in the movie Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, but most of her scenes were cut.
Orange Is the New Black: 2013 to 2019
In 2013, Taylor began her most famous role as Piper Chapman in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. This show was a comedy-drama based on a real book about a woman's time in prison.
For her work on the show, Taylor was nominated for several major awards. These included the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014. She also won three Satellite Awards and three Screen Actors Guild Awards with the cast. The series finished in 2019.
While working on Orange Is the New Black, Taylor also acted in other movies. In 2013, she starred in the Canadian romantic drama Stay. In 2024, Taylor returned to the stage, playing the main role in a play called The Apiary.
