A Look Back: Teec Nos Pos History
The community of Teec Nos Pos wasn't always in the exact same spot. It first started a few miles south of where it is now. Back then, it was known as Tisnasbas. The U.S. Geological Survey officially named it this in 1915.
Later, the people moved north. They settled near where U.S. Highway 160 and U.S. Highway 64 meet. In the 1930s, the Indian Irrigation Service built two concrete dams. These dams helped water about 400 acres (1.6 km2) of Navajo farmland. The community's name changed to Teec Nos Pas in 1960. Then, in 1983, it became Teec Nos Pos, which is its name today.
Teec Nos Pos is also quite close to the famous Four Corners Monument. This special spot, where four states meet, is about 7 miles (11 km) to the northeast.
