Tekamah (say "teh-KAY-muh") is a city in Burt County, Nebraska, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,736 people lived there. Tekamah is also the county seat of Burt County. This means it's where the main government offices for the county are located.

History of Tekamah
Tekamah was started in October 1854 by a person named Benjamin R. Folsom. It officially became a city on March 14, 1855. The name "Tekamah" comes from the Omaha language. It means "big cottonwood," which is a type of tree.
The city grew a lot when railroads were built through the area. These railroads helped transport goods and people. One of these was the Chicago & North Western railroad. However, these railroads are no longer in Tekamah today.

In 2010, about 1,736 people lived in Tekamah. There were 715 households, which are groups of people living in one home. About 478 of these were families. The city had about 1,315 people per square mile.
Most people in Tekamah were White (96.8%). A small number were African American (0.5%), Native American (1.1%), or Asian (0.2%). About 1.5% of people were from two or more races. About 1.8% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
About 27.4% of households had children under 18 living with them. More than half (54.4%) were married couples living together. About 7.1% had a female head of the household with no husband. About 5.3% had a male head of the household with no wife.
The average age of people in Tekamah was 44.1 years old. About 24.5% of residents were under 18. About 22.9% were 65 years or older. The city had slightly more females (52.8%) than males (47.2%).
Culture and Community Life
Tekamah has several interesting places and events. The Tekamah Carnegie Library was built in 1916 and got a new addition in 2013. The Burt County Courthouse was also built in 1916. It has a colorful floor mosaic that shows the Seal of Nebraska.

The Tekamah Auditorium is a place where cultural events happen. For example, it hosts the yearly feast of the Burt County Cattlemen. You can also visit the Burt County Museum, which is located in the E.C. Houston House, built in 1904.
Tekamah even has a special bar that serves unique drinks. It is located inside the old bank vault of the former Burt County Bank. Every year, the people of Tekamah celebrate with an annual sweet corn festival.
Notable People from Tekamah
Many interesting people have come from Tekamah:
- Curt Bromm: He used to be the Speaker of the Nebraska Legislature. This means he was a leader in the state's law-making group.
- Hoot Gibson: He was a famous rodeo champion. He also became an early cowboy film actor, director, and producer.
- Robert C. Holland: He was an economist and a Governor on the Federal Reserve Board. This board helps manage the money system in the United States.
- Don Stenberg: He served as the State Treasurer of Nebraska. He was also the State Attorney General, which means he was the state's top lawyer.
