Tennessee County, North Carolina was an old area of land that belonged to North Carolina. It was part of a larger region called the Washington District. This area was also known as the Overmountain Region because it was west of the Appalachian Mountains. Later, this land became part of the state of Tennessee.

History of Tennessee County

Tennessee County was created in 1788. It was formed from a part of Davidson County, North Carolina.

In 1790, Tennessee County and five other western counties were given to the United States government. This area then became known as the Southwest Territory. This was a special territory managed by the federal government.

In 1796, Tennessee became the 16th state in the United States. When this happened, Tennessee County was divided into two new counties: Montgomery County and Robertson County.

Today, the land that was once Tennessee County covers several modern counties. These include Humphreys, Montgomery, and Robertson counties. It also includes parts of Stewart, Dickson, Cheatham, and Houston counties.
