Tenri (天理市, Tenri-shi) is a city located in Nara Prefecture, Japan. It was officially founded on April 1, 1954. The city is named after Tenrikyo, a Japanese new religion that has its main offices and spiritual center here.
As of April 1, 2015, Tenri had about 66,866 people living in 29,169 homes. The city covers an area of 86.37 square kilometers. This means there were about 800 people living in each square kilometer.

History of Tenri City
Tenri has a long and interesting history. It was once the capital of Japan for a short time. This happened during the rule of Emperor Ninken.
The emperor lived in the Isonokami Hirotaka Palace. This was from the years 488 to 498.
