Tercero (also known as Barrio Tercero) is a neighborhood, or "barrio," in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. It's one of 31 barrios in Ponce. Tercero is special because it's one of the six main neighborhoods right in the heart of Ponce's city area. It was officially created way back in 1878.

Where is Tercero Located?
Tercero is an urban barrio, meaning it's a neighborhood within a city. You can find it in the southern part of the Ponce municipality. It's inside the main city limits of Ponce. Tercero is located just east of the city's traditional center, which is called Plaza Las Delicias.
Tercero's Borders and Neighbors
Barrio Tercero has clear boundaries. To the north, it's bordered by Isabel Street. To the south, you'll find Comercio Street and Francisco Parra Duperón Street. On the west side, it's next to Plaza Degetau and Plaza Munoz Rivera Streets. Finally, the Rio Portugues forms its eastern border.
When looking at its neighbors, Tercero is surrounded by other barrios. To the north is Barrio Quinto. To the south, it borders Cuarto. On its west side is Segundo. To the east, Tercero is next to Machuelo Abajo and San Antón.
Facts and Figures About Tercero
In the year 2000, Tercero covered about 0.1 square miles of land. It didn't have any water areas. At that time, 773 people lived in Tercero. This meant there were about 10,134 people living in every square mile.
By 2010, the land area was slightly smaller, at 0.08 square miles. There was still no water area. The population had changed to 668 people. This made the population density about 8,350 people per square mile.
Famous Places in Tercero
Tercero is home to many important and interesting places in Ponce. If you visit, you can see:
- The Antonio Arias Ventura promenade, a nice place for a walk.
- The Ponce History Museum, where you can learn about the city's past.
- Tricentennial Park, a green space for relaxation.
- Teatro La Perla, a beautiful and historic theater.
- The Museum of Puerto Rican Music, which celebrates the island's musical heritage.
Several historic buildings listed on the NRHP (National Register of Historic Places) are also in Tercero. These include:
- The Banco de Ponce building.
- Ponce High School, an important school.
- The Banco Crédito y Ahorro Ponceño building.
