Terell Stafford was born in Miami, Florida. He grew up in both Chicago, Illinois and Silver Spring, Maryland. He loved music from a young age.
How Terell Stafford Started in Music
Terell first studied classical trumpet. He earned a music education degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1988. Later, in 1993, he got another degree. This one was in classical trumpet performance from Rutgers University. While at the University of Maryland, he joined the jazz band. This is where he started playing jazz music.

Terell Stafford's jazz career quickly took off. He has played with many famous musicians. These include McCoy Tyner and Christian McBride. He has also performed in very famous places. He played at Carnegie Hall and even on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Besides performing, Terell Stafford is also a dedicated teacher. He leads the jazz program at Temple University. He has also worked with the Juilliard School's jazz program. He helped with the Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington program. In 2006, he worked with the All-Alaska Jazz Band. He helps many young musicians learn and grow.
