Terrance Joseph Robiskie (born November 12, 1954) is a former American football player and coach. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons. After his playing days, he became an assistant coach for many NFL teams. These teams included the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, Los Angeles Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Early Life and Playing Career
Terry Robiskie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in Lucy, Louisiana, which is a city west of New Orleans. He went to Second Ward High School in Edgard, where he was a star quarterback.
College Football Success
After high school, Robiskie attended Louisiana State University (LSU). There, he changed his position to running back for the LSU football team. In his final year in 1976, he was named a first-team All-SEC running back. This means he was one of the best running backs in the Southeastern Conference.
Robiskie set several records at LSU. He was the first LSU running back to rush for over 200 yards in a single game. He gained 214 yards in 30 attempts against Rice University in 1976. He was also the first LSU running back to rush for over 1,000 yards in one season (1976). Plus, he was the first to gain over 2,500 yards in his entire college career (1973–1976).
NFL Playing Days
In 1977, the Oakland Raiders drafted Terry Robiskie in the eighth round. He played five seasons in the NFL as a running back. He played for the Raiders from 1977 to 1979 and then for the Miami Dolphins from 1980 to 1981. During his time, he played for famous coaches like John Madden, Tom Flores, and Don Shula. Robiskie was a "role player," meaning he had a specific job on the team. He rushed for 553 yards and scored five touchdowns in his five seasons. An injury later caused him to retire from playing.
Coaching Career Highlights
After his playing career ended, Terry Robiskie became a football coach. He spent many years helping different NFL teams.
Los Angeles Raiders Coaching
Robiskie started his coaching career with the Los Angeles Raiders in 1982. He began as an assistant running backs coach. In this role, he helped Marcus Allen become a top player, reaching the Pro Bowl twice and rushing for over 1,000 yards in two seasons. From 1985 to 1987, Robiskie was an assistant special teams coach. In 1988, he coached the tight ends.
From 1989 to 1993, Robiskie was the offensive coordinator for the Raiders. This meant he was in charge of the team's offense. In 1990, the Raiders were one of the top teams in rushing yards. In 1993, the Raiders were fifth in passing offense. Robiskie helped quarterback Jeff Hostetler pass for over 3,200 yards. During his 12 years with the Raiders, the team made the playoffs seven times. They also won four division titles and won Super Bowl XVIII with a score of 38–9 against the Washington Redskins.
