Sharod Lamor "Roddy" White (born November 2, 1981) is a former professional football player. He played his entire career as a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL). Roddy White played college football for the UAB Blazers. The Falcons picked him in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft.

Early Life and Sports
Roddy White grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. He went to James Island High School. He was a great athlete in four different sports. He played football, baseball, soccer, and wrestling.
In football, he was named All-State twice. He was also one of the best receivers in the country. In wrestling, he won two state championships. He was known for a special move called the "Shanaz."
College Football Career
Roddy White played college football at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He was an amazing wide receiver for the UAB Blazers football team. Over four seasons, he caught 163 passes. He gained 3,112 yards and scored 26 touchdowns. In 2017, he was added to the UAB Athletics Hall of Fame.
College Highlights
Roddy White started making an impact in his first year, 2001. He scored his first college touchdown in October. By his sophomore year in 2002, he played a bigger role. He had a great game against East Carolina, catching eight passes for 159 yards.
In 2003, his junior year, he continued to shine. He had 10 catches for 111 yards against Southern Miss. He also had a huge game against Cincinnati, with 171 yards and two touchdowns.
His senior year in 2004 was his best. He caught 71 passes for 1,452 yards and 14 touchdowns. He had a career-high 253 receiving yards in one game against Tulane. Roddy helped UAB reach their first-ever bowl game, the 2004 Hawaii Bowl.

Playing for the Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons chose Roddy White as the 27th pick in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft. He was the sixth wide receiver picked that year.
Early NFL Seasons (2005-2007)
In his first year (2005), Roddy played well despite an ankle injury. He had 446 receiving yards, ranking fifth among all rookie wide receivers.
In 2006, he played in all 16 games. He improved his performance, catching 30 passes for 505 yards.
The 2007 season was a breakout year for Roddy. He became the first Falcons receiver since 1999 to gain over 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He finished with 1,202 yards and six touchdowns. He showed support for a teammate, Michael Vick, and was fined by the league for a message on his shirt.
Becoming a Star (2008-2012)
The 2008 season was even better. Roddy set a new team record with 1,382 receiving yards. He also had 88 catches and seven touchdowns. He was chosen for his first Pro Bowl, an award for top players. The Falcons made the playoffs that year.
In 2009, Roddy signed a big contract extension. He set a Falcons record for most receiving yards in a single game with 210 yards. He finished the season with 1,153 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns. He was selected for his second Pro Bowl.
The 2010 season was one of Roddy's best. He led the entire NFL in receptions with 115 catches. He also led the NFC in receiving yards with 1,389. He scored 10 touchdowns. For his amazing performance, he was named First-team All-Pro and went to the Pro Bowl again. The Falcons made the playoffs.
In 2011, Roddy continued his strong play. He caught 100 passes for 1,296 yards and eight touchdowns. He broke the Falcons' franchise record for career receptions. He was added to the Pro Bowl roster for the fourth time.
The 2012 season saw Roddy play in all 16 games. He had 92 catches for 1,351 yards and seven touchdowns. The Falcons had a great season and made it to the NFC Championship game. Roddy had 100 receiving yards in that game.
Later Seasons and Retirement (2013-2019)
In 2013, Roddy dealt with injuries, which slowed his start. He still managed 711 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
In 2014, he signed a new contract. He reached a big milestone, becoming the 42nd player in NFL history to gain 10,000 receiving yards. He finished the season with 921 yards and seven touchdowns.
The 2015 season was Roddy's last in the NFL. He played in all 16 games. He had 43 catches for 506 yards and one touchdown. The Falcons released him in March 2016.
After not playing in 2016, Roddy White officially announced his retirement from the NFL in April 2017. He retired as an Atlanta Falcon. In June 2017, the Falcons honored him with a special retirement ceremony. In 2019, Roddy White was inducted into the Falcons Ring of Honor, a special group of team legends.
