History of Tetley
Tetley is thought to be the site of a deserted medieval village. This means that a village once existed here during the Middle Ages. But for some reason, people left it. The village was then abandoned. We know Tetley existed as early as 1316.

Tetley Hall is an important building in the hamlet. It is a Grade II listed building. This means it is a special building. It is protected because of its history or architecture. Tetley Hall was built between 1829 and 1839. It was built for a person named Henry Lister Maw.
Some parts of Tetley Hall are even older. Its range, which is a part of the building, dates back to the late 1700s. This older part was built for George Stovin. The stables and granary near Tetley Hall are also Grade II listed. They are also protected historical buildings.
The Font at Tetley
Near Tetley Hall, there is a special stone object. It is a limestone baptismal font. A font is a basin used in churches for baptisms. This font might be from the mid-1600s. It could have come from the Protestant church in Sandtoft.
