The Story of Teucer
Who was Teucer?
Teucer is a legendary hero. People say he founded the city of Pontevedra. He was a skilled archer and the son of King Telamon from Salamis.
Teucer's Journey
The legend says Teucer had to leave his home. He followed a mermaid named Leucoiña to the Ria de Pontevedra. This is where he later founded the city.
Before this, Teucer fought in the long Trojan War. He fought alongside his brother, Ajax, and his cousin, Achilles. After the war, many heroes were not welcomed home. Teucer's own father rejected him.
So, Teucer went looking for a new home. He traveled west to Iberia. He explored the coast of Hispania and crossed the Strait of Gibraltar. He then started a Greek settlement called Hellenes. This place eventually grew into the city we now know as Pontevedra.
