Théo Kerg (born June 2, 1909 – died March 4, 1993) was a talented painter and sculptor from Luxembourg. He was known for his amazing modern art creations.

His Life Story

Théo Kerg was born in a town called Niederkorn in southwestern Luxembourg. His father was a school teacher. Théo went to school in Esch-sur-Alzette.

In 1929, he moved to Paris, France, to study art. He attended famous schools like the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the Sorbonne. From 1932 to 1933, he also studied art in Düsseldorf, Germany. There, he learned from well-known artists like Paul Klee and Oskar Moll.

Théo Kerg returned to Luxembourg in 1936 and became an art professor. In 1943, during World War II, he left his teaching job. After the war, in 1944, he was held for about 15 months. In 1946, he left Luxembourg. He planned to go to Venezuela, but he stopped in Paris. While there, he helped illustrate a book by the writer Paul Éluard. Théo Kerg decided to stay in Paris permanently. He spent the last three years of his life in Chissey-en-Morvan, a village in Burgundy, France. He passed away there in 1993.

His Art Style

Théo Kerg's art was shown in many places. He took part in over 300 group art shows and had more than 150 of his own exhibitions.

He even started his own art movement called "tactilism." This idea meant that a piece of art could look different depending on things like the lighting around it or the general atmosphere.

In Luxembourg, many people remember him for the beautiful stained-glass windows he created. You can see them at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Cents. He made these windows in 1975.
