Vernon Johnson (born December 24, 1970) is an American rapper and record producer. He is better known by his stage name, Tha Chill. He is a founding member of the famous West Coast hip hop group Compton's Most Wanted.
Johnson grew up in Compton, California. He became friends with Aaron "MC Eiht" Tyler. Together, they started the group Compton's Most Wanted, also known as C.M.W., in the late 1980s.

Music Career
Compton's Most Wanted
Tha Chill was part of C.M.W.'s first album, It's a Compton Thang. During the making of the album, he had to take a break from music. Because of this, he was not on the group's next two albums, Straight Checkn 'Em (1991) and Music to Driveby (1992).
After an eight-year break, the group reunited. Tha Chill returned to perform on their reunion album, Represent.
Working with Other Artists
After his break from music, Johnson joined MC Eiht's new group, N.O.T.R., along with Gene "Boom Bam" Heisser. He also became a successful record producer. A producer helps artists create their music in the studio.
Starting in 1998, he produced songs for many well-known artists. These included 213, Above The Law, Kokane, MC Ren, and RBX. He also continued to produce music for MC Eiht's solo projects.
Solo Work and Supergroups
In the 2000s, Johnson started his own record label called Bigfutt Entertainment. He released his first solo album, Tha Wind Chill Factor, in 2009.
He later joined a hip-hop supergroup called 1st Generation in 2011. A supergroup is a band made up of artists who are already famous from other groups or as solo acts. This group included other famous rappers like MC Eiht, Kurupt, and King T.
In 2016, Tha Chill formed another supergroup called Diirty OGz. The group released its first album, We Got Now and Next, that same year. Tha Chill also continued his solo career, releasing the album 4Wit80 in 2018.
