The Story of Thayer
Thayer was officially planned and laid out in 1887. This happened when the railroad lines were extended to reach this spot. The village was named after John Milton Thayer. He was an important person in American history. John Milton Thayer was a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He also served as a United States Senator from Nebraska during the Reconstruction era.
