The Adventure Begins
In The Black Circle, the main characters, Amy and Dan Cahill, are on a thrilling quest. They are trying to find a secret clue that was taken by the Nazis during World War II. Along their journey, they also meet the mysterious Madrigals. These Madrigals actually help them escape danger later in the story.
A Mysterious Telegram
The adventure kicks off in a hotel in Cairo. Amy and Dan get a strange telegram while their guardian, Nellie, is still sleeping. They borrow Nellie's phone and leave her a note. The note says they went to get doughnuts, but they are really heading to the Cairo International Airport.
Chased in Cairo
On their way to the airport, Amy and Dan are chased! Their rivals, Ian and Natalie Kabra, are also trying to find the 39 clues. Luckily, Amy and Dan manage to get away from the Kabras. They find what the telegram mentioned: a special locker.
Unlocking the Secret
Inside the locker, Amy and Dan discover a glass paperweight. It has a key hidden inside it! The paperweight is holding down a piece of parchment with scrambled letters. They also find a box filled with disguises and two passports. These passports show them wearing the disguises. Plus, there's a Russian guide book with two tickets to Volgograd, Russia.
Decoding the Clue
After they get on their plane, Amy and Dan work on the scrambled letters. They add the underlined letters from their own names to figure out the secret message. The message tells them that more clues are hidden in several Russian cities. These cities include Volgograd, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, and St. Petersburg. There are also clues in Siberian cities like Magadan and Omsk. It seems the clue is connected to the history of the Romanovs, Russia's last royal family.
Journey to Russia
When Amy and Dan arrive in Volgograd, they team up with the Holts. They even make a temporary alliance with Hamilton Holt.
The Motherland Calls
They find a secret entrance inside the huge Motherland Calls statue. This statue is twice the size of the Statue of Liberty! Inside, there's a rope system. A very important clue is waiting on a platform high up on these ropes. Amy and Dan use a clever trick to beat Hamilton. They take the package with the important clue.
Historical Hints
The package gives them a hint about the clue. It's connected to famous historical figures like Rasputin, Anastasia Romanov, and Alexei Romanov. They check the cities on their list, which leads them to the place where Rasputin died.
Escaping Danger
During their search, the Kabras attack them! But the Holts warn Amy and Dan about a special code. This code guides them to a secret Lucian base. There, they finally discover who the mysterious "NRR" is. It's Nataliya Ruslanovna Radova, the only daughter of Anastasia!
The Amber Room Secret
Nataliya helps them find the clue in the famous Amber Room. Inside the Amber Room, they find fake Australian passports belonging to their parents. This means their parents were also hunting for the clues but never finished. They then run into Irina and a mysterious man in black. Amy and Dan hide in a coffin while the man in black distracts Irina and two Lucian agents. He helps them escape the church.
The Final Clue
Amy and Dan safely get out of the Church on the Blood. Nellie is on her way to meet them. Dan calls Hamilton and shares the clue: 1 gram of melted amber. The book ends with the Holts deciding to end their alliance with Amy and Dan.
