The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars is a fun animated movie for kids. It's based on a book by Thomas M. Disch. This film is a sequel to the popular story, The Brave Little Toaster. It was made by Hyperion Animation and released on video by Walt Disney Home Video. The movie first came out in the United Kingdom in 1997 and then in the United States in 1998.

Even though it came out before The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue, this movie's story happens after it. Both sequels were made around the same time.

Story of the Brave Little Toaster's Mars Adventure

Robbie's Unexpected Trip to Mars

Rob and Chris are now married and live on a farm. They have a baby boy named Robbie. Rob also runs a vet clinic and repair shop. At first, the talking appliances worry that Rob and Chris will forget them. But soon, they get used to baby Robbie.

One night, Toaster wakes up. He hears a strange message coming from the attic. It sounds like it's from space! The next morning, Toaster tells the other appliances and Ratso, the family's pet rat. They decide to watch the junk drawer where the Hearing Aid lives. They think it might be sending the messages.

The next night, the Hearing Aid sneaks out again. Robbie, woken by the sounds, follows it to the attic. The appliances wake up and follow Robbie. They reach the attic just as a bright light appears. Robbie is accidentally beamed up into space!

Journey to the Red Planet

The appliances are shocked. They ask the Hearing Aid what happened. They learn that Robbie has been sent to Mars by mistake. They quickly contact an old friend, Wittgenstein. He is a wise old radio from their college days. They connect a computer to a museum security camera to talk to him.

Wittgenstein helps them make a plan. The appliances build a spaceship using a ceiling fan, a laundry basket, and a microwave. They use microwave popcorn as fuel! Calculator becomes their navigator. They launch into space, leaving Ratso behind. Ratso's job is to keep the baby monitor quiet. He must make sure Rob and Chris don't find out Robbie is gone.

As they fly through space, they meet friendly, talking balloons. These balloons were let go by humans and now float freely.

Meeting the Martian Appliances

Finally, the appliances reach Mars. They have a bumpy landing because Blanky accidentally turns off the microwave. On Mars, they find many satellites sent from Earth. One of them is Viking 1. They also meet a Christmas angel named Tinselina. She was sent to Mars with the satellites.

They soon find Robbie! He's safe inside a bubble so he can breathe in space. But then, military toasters capture them. The toasters take them to their leader, a giant refrigerator called the 'Supreme Commander'.

Tinselina explains that the Martian appliances were made on Earth. A company called "Wonderluxe" built them to break down quickly. This was part of a plan called planned obsolescence. It means things are made to stop working so people buy new ones. The appliances were angry about this. So, they escaped to Mars. Now, they plan to destroy Earth with a missile!

The Election and a Family Reunion

To stop the missile, Toaster decides to challenge the Supreme Commander. There's an election coming up. Toaster makes Hearing Aid her helper. Toaster and the Supreme Commander have a big debate. During the debate, Robbie reaches out of his bubble. He touches the Supreme Commander, who feels a strange warmth.

Toaster wins the election! They meet the defeated Supreme Commander. He lets them see what's inside him. They go into his cold, icy inside. There, they find his true form. Hearing Aid realizes it's his long-lost brother! They haven't seen each other in sixty years.

Hearing Aid's brother explains his story. He was created by Albert Einstein. After World War II, he was left behind. He fell into the hands of a bad leader. This made him think all humans were cruel. So, he came to Mars and became the Supreme Commander. But Robbie's touch and Toaster's words made him realize that not all humans are bad.

Returning Home

With the problem solved, the appliances and Robbie get ready to go home. Tinselina and Hearing Aid's reformed brother join them. The Wonderluxe appliances stay on Mars. They will wait for new humans to arrive in the future.

As they leave, Hearing Aid's brother remembers something. He forgot to turn off the missile! Toaster and the ex-Commander jump out. They race to the missile's controls and stop it just in time. The others turn back to pick them up. Tinselina gives up her shiny clothes and hair. This provides the special fuel needed to get back to Earth.

The appliances happily fly back. They get Robbie back into his room and return to their places by sunrise. Tinselina, feeling sad about losing her beauty, throws herself into a trash can.

Later, on Christmas morning, Robbie opens presents. Rob and Chris hear him say his second first word: "toaster"! Robbie then gathers Toaster, Blanky, Lampy, Kirby, and Radio around the Christmas tree. Toaster turns on the lights. On top of the tree is Tinselina! Rob and Chris had found and fixed her. Everyone celebrates Christmas together.
