Brian Murray (born October 31, 1945), known professionally as Brian Doyle-Murray, is an American actor, comedian, and screenwriter. He has appeared in many films and TV shows. You might know him from movies like Caddyshack and Groundhog Day. He often works with his younger brother, the famous actor Bill Murray.

Brian also played Hank Murphy on the TV show Sullivan & Son. He is well-known for voicing the Flying Dutchman in SpongeBob SquarePants. He also voiced Coach Tiffany Gills in My Gym Partner's a Monkey. Another big voice role was Captain K'nuckles in The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. He had a regular role as Don Ehlert on the sitcom The Middle. Brian added "Doyle" to his name from his grandmother's maiden name. This was to avoid being confused with another actor named Brian Murray.

Brian Murray was born on Halloween, October 31, 1945. He was born in Evanston, Illinois. He is one of nine children. His parents were Lucille and Edward Joseph Murray II. Brian went to Saint Mary's College of California in the late 1960s.

Early Career in Comedy

In the early 1970s, Brian worked at The Second City. This was a famous comedy group. He then appeared on Saturday Night Live (SNL). He was a featured player from 1979 to 1980 and again from 1981 to 1982. He also wrote for SNL. He was one of the few cast members to work for all three producers of the show.

Brian was nominated for three Emmy Awards for his writing on SNL. These nominations were in 1978, 1979, and 1980. He was also a regular on The National Lampoon Radio Hour. This was a comedy radio show from 1973 to 1975. He worked with famous comedians like John Belushi and Gilda Radner. His brother Bill was also on the Radio Hour.

Brian has been in many movies with his brother, Bill Murray. Their first movie together was Caddyshack in 1980. He also helped write Caddyshack. Other films they did together include The Razor's Edge (1984) and Scrooged (1988). They also appeared in Ghostbusters II (1989) and Groundhog Day (1993).

Brian has also had roles in other popular movies. He was in National Lampoon's Vacation (1983). He also played Frank Shirley in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989). He played Noah Vanderhoff in Wayne's World (1992). You might also remember him from Sixteen Candles (1984) and Stuart Little (1999). He was also in 17 Again (2009).
