The Legend of Calamity Jane is an exciting animated TV show from 1997–1998. It was made in both America and France. The series follows the amazing adventures of a brave woman named Calamity Jane. She lives in the old West town of Deadwood, South Dakota. The show is set in 1876, a time when the American West was still wild. This cartoon was known for its really good animation, which was better than many other Saturday morning shows back then.
The show first aired in France and Canada between 1997 and 1998. It also came to Portugal in 2002. Even though it didn't run for a long time, it became a favorite for many fans. It was even dubbed into several languages like French, Spanish, and Italian.

Calamity Jane
Calamity Jane is the main character of the show. She is based on a real person from history. However, her look and background in the cartoon are made up. For example, in the show, she can read and write. She says she grew up in places like Portsmouth, Rhode Island and Atlanta, Georgia. The real Calamity Jane couldn't read or write. She also grew up in Missouri. In the series, Jane also says she is part of the Comanche tribe.
She is shown as a 24-year-old woman with green eyes and red hair. She is fair-skinned and always fights for what is right. She loves to use a whip in her adventures. She also prefers to drink milk instead of other drinks. Her loyal black horse is named Dakota. The voice of Calamity Jane is done by Barbara Scaff.
Joe Presto
Joe Presto is Jane's helpful sidekick. He cares a lot about her and is always there to support her. Joe doesn't like to hurt anyone. His shotgun is only loaded with rock salt, not real bullets! This shows he prefers to scare people away rather than harm them. He rides a mule named Tessy. Frank Welker provides his voice.
Wild Bill Hickok
This character is based on the real-life Wild Bill Hickok. In the show, he is an old friend of Jane's. He often helps her, even if he has doubts about following the law strictly. Clancy Brown is the voice actor for Wild Bill Hickok.
Quanna Parker
Quanna Parker is Jane's "blood brother" and the Chief of the Comanche tribe. He enjoys thinking about big ideas and philosophy. In one episode, "Troubled Waters," his tribe becomes very rich. This happens after they find oil on their land. His voice is done by Michael Horse.
Captain John O'Rourke
Captain John O'Rourke is a polite officer in the US cavalry. He always follows the rules. He helps Jane in many episodes. The show hints that he might have romantic feelings for her. In the episode "The Final Curtain," we learn something important about him. As a child, he saw the Lincoln assassination. He felt responsible because his older brother, who should have been guarding the President, chose to sit by him instead. Tim Matheson is the voice of Captain O'Rourke.

- Slip of the Whip: The Comanche tribe and the army are tricked into fighting each other. An outlaw named Bill Doolin causes this trouble to rob a train.
- An Army of Rogues: A man who thinks he's like Napoleon tries to take over the United States. He uses weapons stolen from a cavalry fort.
- Like Father, Like Daughter: A man shows up claiming to be Jane's father. At the same time, a series of bank robberies start happening.
- As Easy as One, Two, Three...: Jane has to deal with three bandit brothers who are triplets!
- Train Kept a' Rollin': Bill Doolin escapes from jail. He then takes over a military train filled with explosives.
- The Final Curtain: O'Rourke believes a traveling actor is actually John Wilkes Booth, the person who assassinated President Lincoln.
- The Way of the Buffalo: Jane and the Buffalo Soldiers try to stop a fight. It's between a prejudiced settler and the Blackfoot tribe.
- Troubled Waters: A dishonest government official tries to force the Comanche off their land. This land is rich with oil.
- Waiting for the Cavalry: Jane, Joe, and Wild Bill are trapped in a small shack. They are surrounded by dangerous outlaws.
- Dead or Alive: Jane has to protect herself from people trying to capture her. She is taking a person named John Wesley Hardin to face trial.
- Protege: A very excited girl named Ellie starts following Jane everywhere.
- I'd Rather Be in Philadelphia: A group of people who supported the Confederacy after the Civil War plan to assassinate President Grant.
- Without a Vengeance: An outlaw beats Jane and leaves her for dead. Wild Bill then becomes very focused on getting revenge.
