The Lion King: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the official music album for the 1994 Disney animated movie, The Lion King. It features amazing songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice. The background music, called the score, was created by Hans Zimmer.

Elton John not only helped write the songs but also sang on several tracks. Other talented performers on the album include Lebo M, Carmen Twillie, Jason Weaver, Rowan Atkinson, Joseph Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Jeremy Irons, Cheech Marin, Jim Cummings, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, and Sally Dworsky.

The album was first released on May 31, 1994, as a CD and audio cassette. The music was recorded in three different countries: the U.S., the U.K., and South Africa. This soundtrack became super popular! It's the best-selling soundtrack from an animated movie in the United States, selling over 7 million copies.

A bigger version of The Lion King soundtrack came out on June 24, 2014. It was part of the Walt Disney Records: The Legacy Collection series. This special edition included 30 extra minutes of music that hadn't been released before. In 2014, a cool vinyl record version of the soundtrack was also released.
