The Mall of New Hampshire is a big shopping mall located in Manchester, New Hampshire. It's a fun place to visit with many stores and places to eat!

Some of the main stores you'll find here include Macy's, Old Navy, JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, Best Buy, and Dave & Buster's. The mall has about 125 different stores. It also has a large food court where you can grab a bite to eat.

The Mall of New Hampshire is quite large, covering about 798,881 square feet. This makes it the third biggest mall in New Hampshire. The two larger malls are the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem and the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua. The Mall of New Hampshire was the first really big shopping center in the state. It first opened its doors in August 1977.

The mall is managed by a company called Simon Property Group. They own more than half of the mall. Another part of the mall is owned by the CPP Investment Board, which helps manage Canada's national pension system.

The mall is easy to get to, located right off Interstate 293. This makes it a popular spot for people from all over New Hampshire. Many visitors also come from nearby Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont. They often come to shop because New Hampshire does not have a sales tax. This means you don't pay extra money on top of the price tag when you buy things!

Mall History

The Mall of New Hampshire first opened in August 1977. When it first started, its main stores were Sears, Filene's, and Lechmere.

Big Changes and New Stores

The mall got a huge makeover and expansion between 1996 and 1998.

  • In 1997, the Sears store was made bigger and updated.
  • The original Filene's store moved to a brand new, much larger building in a different part of the mall.
  • The old Filene's building was then taken down and rebuilt into a two-story JCPenney store in 1998.
  • Lechmere closed in 1997. Its space was later divided into a Best Buy and a Kitchen ETC store in 1998.
  • The food court also got a new look in 1998. It was updated to have 550 seats for people to enjoy their meals.

In 2006, a big change happened with department stores. The Filene's store at the mall, along with many others, closed down. Most of these, including the one at the Mall of New Hampshire, then became Macy's stores.

In April 2013, JCPenney updated its store again. They added a Sephora inside. This made it easier for customers to find beauty products without having to go to other malls like the Mall at Rockingham Park or the Pheasant Lane Mall.

Recent Changes

In 2015, the company that owned Sears made some changes. The Sears store at the Mall of New Hampshire became part of a new property company.

On August 22, 2018, it was announced that the Sears store would be closing. It finally closed its doors in November 2018. Later, it was shared that the old Sears space would be split. Half of it would become a Dick's Sporting Goods store. The other half would become a Dave & Buster's, a popular place for games and food.

Dick's Sporting Goods opened on October 30, 2019. Dave & Buster's was supposed to open in March 2020. However, its opening was delayed until August 24, 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The old Sears Auto Center, which was next to the store, was taken down to create more parking spaces for visitors.
