The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show was the sixth version of the popular Hanna-Barbera cartoon Scooby-Doo. It first aired on September 10, 1983. This show was a half-hour program on ABC. Each episode had two shorter cartoons, each about eleven minutes long.
In 1984, the show's name changed to The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. The way the show was made stayed the same. However, for the second season, two classic characters, Fred and Velma, came back to the show. They had been away for four years. The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries then ran for another season on ABC.
A total of thirteen half-hour episodes were made in 1983 under the New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo name. These episodes had twenty-four separate stories. In 1984, another thirteen episodes were made for The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. These had twenty different stories.

About the Series
Season One Adventures
For this version of the show, Hanna-Barbera tried to mix old and new ideas. They brought back Daphne Blake to the team. She had not been in the show for three years. The stories in each episode followed Daphne, Shaggy Rogers, Scooby-Doo, and Scrappy-Doo. They solved spooky mysteries while pretending to be reporters for a teen magazine. Each half-hour show usually had two short 11-minute episodes. Sometimes, these two parts would be one longer story.
Season Two and Familiar Faces
The second season, called The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, aired in 1984. It kept the same format. This season brought back six two-part episodes that featured the original Scooby-Doo characters, Fred Jones and Velma Dinkley. They had been missing from the series for five years.
When Fred first returned in the episode "Happy Birthday, Scooby-Doo," his last name was mistakenly said as "Rogers." Later in the same episode, it was corrected to "Jones." "Rogers" was Shaggy's last name, which had been set in the previous season. The theme song for The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries sounded like Michael Jackson's music from his Thriller album. The opening credits even showed monsters dancing like the zombies in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video.
Episode Highlights
The show had a total of 26 episodes over two seasons. Each episode was about 22 minutes long and often included two shorter mystery stories. The gang traveled to many different places, from Greece to Australia, solving mysteries involving all sorts of creatures.
Some of the mysteries they solved included:
- Viking Ghosts: The gang looked for a missing archaeologist and faced Viking ghosts.
