The Qube is a tall office building in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. It was once known by other names like the Chase Tower and the National Bank of Detroit Building. This building is located in the Detroit Financial District at 611 Woodward Avenue.
The Qube was built in 1959. It has 14 floors and was designed in a modern style. It uses a lot of marble to match other buildings nearby. The famous company Albert Kahn Associates designed it. Today, it is a main office for Quicken Loans.
History of The Qube
The Qube stands where Detroit's very first skyscraper, the Hammond Building, used to be. The ground floor of The Qube has a large, glass-covered banking hall.
Over the years, this building has had several official names. It was first known as the National Bank of Detroit (NBD) Building. Later, it became the Bank One Center. From 2006 to 2011, it was called the Chase Tower after Chase Bank bought Bank One.
In 2007, a company called the Sterling Group bought the tower. In April 2011, Quicken Loans bought the building. They renamed it The Qube. Quicken Loans moved about 4,000 of their employees into the building. They also planned to fill the other spaces with shops and businesses.
In August 2014, the Detroit news office for WXYZ-TV moved into The Qube. This TV station is an ABC affiliate. Their new location now has satellite studios and newsrooms.
