Mountain Weather: The Sphinx's Climate
The Sphinx mountain is in a special weather zone. This area has a "marine west coast" climate. This means it gets a lot of rain or snow. It's similar to the weather you might find near oceans.
How Weather Forms Here
Most of the weather comes from the Pacific Ocean. Big weather systems travel east. When they hit the tall Coast Mountains, they are forced to rise. As the air goes up, it cools down. This causes the moisture in the air to fall. It comes down as rain or, in winter, as lots of snow.
Winter Conditions
Because of this, the Coast Mountains get a lot of precipitation. Winters can be very cold. Temperatures can drop below -20 degrees Celsius. With the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below -30 degrees Celsius.
