The Tale of the Fox (also known as Le Roman de Renard in French) is a very old animated movie. It was made using a special technique called stop-motion animation. This means that puppets were moved tiny bits at a time, and a picture was taken after each move. When all the pictures are played fast, it looks like the puppets are moving on their own!
This film was the first full-length animated movie made by a pioneer in animation, Ladislas Starevich. It tells stories about a clever fox named Renard. Even though the animation was finished in Paris between 1929 and 1930, it took a while to add sound. Finally, the movie got funding for a German soundtrack and was first shown in Berlin in April 1937.
The Tale of the Fox was released eight months before Walt Disney's famous movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It is known as the sixth animated feature film (a long movie) ever made in the world. It was also the second movie to use puppet animation, after a film called The New Gulliver from the USSR. The French version of The Tale of the Fox with a French language soundtrack came out in 1941. This is the version you can usually find today.
The Story of Renard the Fox
In this animal kingdom, Renard the fox is very tricky. He loves to fool everyone around him. Because of his tricks, the King, who is a mighty lion, starts getting lots of complaints from the other animals.
Eventually, the King gets so many complaints that he decides Renard has gone too far. He orders his guards to arrest Renard and bring him to the throne. The movie then follows Renard's adventures as he tries to get out of trouble and continue his clever ways.
