The Telebugs is a fun British animated TV show from the 1980s. It features three cool robots with special heads and their flying camera friend. They work as reporters and go on exciting adventures to stop bad guys!

About The Telebugs Show

The show is about three special robots:

  • C.H.I.P. (which stands for Coordinated Hexadecimal Information Processor)
  • S.A.M.A.N.T.H.A. (Solar Activated Micro Automated Non-inTerference Hearing Apparatus)
  • B.U.G. (Binary Unmanned Gamma camera)

They are joined by a flying video pack called M.I.C. (Mobile Independent Camera). These amazing robots were created by Professor Brainstrain. He has a funny way of speaking, sometimes saying "Pwofessor Bwainstwain" because of a slight speech difference.

Their Mission: Stopping Bad Guys

The Telebugs work as reporters for a TV boss named Mr McStarch. Their main job is to stop tricky enemies like Baron Bullybyte, Magna, Angel Brain, Z.U.D.O (Zero-failure Universal Data Optimizer) Bug, and Arcadia. They always make sure good wins over evil!

The show had 3 seasons and a total of 86 episodes. It was made by Telemagination and Telebug Enterprises. It first aired in the United Kingdom on Children's ITV between 1986 and 1987.

The Creators Behind the Scenes

The Telebugs was the very first TV series made by Telemagination. This company later created other popular animated shows for kids, such as The Animals of Farthing Wood, Noah's Island, and The Cramp Twins.

Where The Telebugs Aired

This show was popular in many countries! It was shown on ABC TV in Australia from 1988 to 1991. It also aired in Brunei, Malaysia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and New Zealand. Even GBC TV in Gibraltar showed it, often as a short program during children's TV time. You could also watch it on cable and satellite TV on The Children's Channel.

The Catchy Theme Songs

The show was also known for its cool closing theme songs.

  • In the first season, an extended version of the opening theme was used at the end.
  • For the second season, a short song called "I Have a Heart" became the closing theme. It was sung by Suzy Westerby, who also voiced Samantha. This version became the most famous one.
  • In the third season, a longer version of "I Have A Heart" was used, sung by George McCrae. However, this version was nearly three minutes long, which was a bit too long for a short cartoon! So, for later repeats of season 3, they went back to using the extended opening theme, just like in season 1.

A New Name for The Telebugs

In the 1990s, the show was sold to HIT Entertainment. They changed its name to The Gigglebytes. This version of the series also aired in Singapore on Prime 12 as part of their children's programming block called Kidz Blitz.

Meet the Voice Actors

The talented voice actors brought the characters to life:

  • All the male characters were voiced by Ron Moody. The only exception was Bug.
  • All the female characters, and also Bug, were voiced by Suzy Westerby.
