Theoni V. Aldredge (born August 22, 1922 – died January 21, 2011) was a very talented Greek-American costume designer. She created amazing outfits for plays on Broadway and for many movies. She was known for her creative designs that helped bring characters to life on stage and screen.

About Theoni Aldredge
Theoni Athanasiou Vachliotis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1922. She studied at the American School in Athens. In 1949, she moved to the United States. She went to the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago on a special scholarship. This school is now part of DePaul University.
Her first job on Broadway was in 1959. She designed the clothes for actress Geraldine Page in a play called Sweet Bird of Youth. Her last Broadway project was in 2006, for a new version of A Chorus Line. For 20 years, she was the main designer for a famous producer named Joseph Papp. She also designed many musicals for Michael Bennett.
Her Amazing Career
Theoni Aldredge was one of the most celebrated costume designers in American theater. She won three Tony Awards. These awards are like the Oscars for theater. She won for the musicals Annie, Barnum, and La Cage aux Folles. She was also nominated for 11 other Tony Awards. Some of these nominations were for famous shows like A Chorus Line, 42nd Street, and Dreamgirls.
She also won many other awards from different theater groups. In 2002, she received the Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honors someone who has done amazing work in costume design for a long time.
Theoni Aldredge also worked a lot in movies and on television. She designed costumes for films like Network, Eyes of Laura Mars, and Rich and Famous. She won an Oscar and a British Academy Award for her work on the movie The Great Gatsby in 1974. Her designs from that movie were so popular that a clothing store, Bloomingdale's, even sold clothes inspired by them!
Her Personal Life
Theoni Aldredge was married to American actor Tom Aldredge. They were married in 1953. She passed away on January 21, 2011, at the age of 88, due to heart problems in a hospital in Stamford, Connecticut. Her husband, Tom, passed away six months later, in July 2011, at age 83, from a type of cancer.
