History of Thurman
The 2012 Tornado Event
On April 14, 2012, a powerful tornado hit Thurman. This tornado was about half a mile wide and was rated as an EF-2 storm. It caused a lot of damage to the city.
The storm damaged between 75% and 90% of the homes in Thurman. Before reaching the city, the tornado also flipped five large trucks on Interstate 29. One truck driver was hurt and needed to go to the hospital. The community worked hard to recover after this event.
