Tibacuy is a small town and municipality in Colombia. It is located in the Cundinamarca region, within the Sumapaz Province. Tibacuy sits in the Eastern Mountains of the Colombian Andes. It is about 87 kilometers (54 miles) southeast of Bogotá, the capital city.

What Tibacuy Means
The name Tibacuy comes from the Chibcha language. This was the language spoken by the Muisca and Panche groups. In their language, Tibacuy means "official chief."
A Look at History
The area where Tibacuy is today was once home to several indigenous groups. These included the Muisca and the Panche. The Sutagao lived a bit further to the southeast.
The modern town of Tibacuy is built at a lower height than the original village. Bernardino de Albornoz officially founded the current town. This happened between February 13th and 17th, 1592.
Climate and Weather
Tibacuy has a warm and mild climate. The average temperature is around 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit). It rains quite a bit throughout the year, especially from March to May and in October and November. The driest months are usually July and August. The area also gets a good amount of sunshine.

The main way people make a living in Tibacuy is through agriculture. This means farming. Farmers in Tibacuy grow many different crops. The most important ones are coffee, bananas, tomatoes, and blackberries.
Ancient Art: Petroglyphs
In a rural part of Tibacuy called Cumaca, something very old and special has been found. These are petroglyphs. Petroglyphs are ancient drawings or carvings made on rocks. They give us clues about the people who lived there long ago.
