Tijjani Muhammad-Bande (born on December 7, 1957) is a well-known Nigerian diplomat and political scientist. He is also an academic, meaning he has worked as a university professor and leader.
From September 2019 to September 2020, he was the president of the United Nations General Assembly. This is a very important role at the United Nations, where leaders from many countries discuss global issues. Before that, he was a vice president of the General Assembly from 2016 to 2017. He also served as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2017 to 2024. This means he was Nigeria's main representative at the UN.
Professor Muhammad-Bande has also led important institutions in Nigeria. He was the director general of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies from 2010 to 2016. He also served as the vice chancellor (a top leader) of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University from 2004 to 2009.

Tijjani Muhammad-Bande was born in Zagga, a town in what is now Kebbi State, Nigeria. He received his early education there.
University Studies
He went to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. In 1979, he earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He then continued his studies in the United States. He received a Master of Arts degree in political science from Boston University in 1981. Later, in 1987, he earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Toronto in Canada.

Between 2000 and 2004, Professor Muhammad-Bande worked as the director-general of an organization called the African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development. This center is located in Tangier, Morocco. From 2010 to 2016, he led Nigeria's National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. This institute helps train leaders and develop policies for the country.
