Timmonsville is a town in Florence County, South Carolina, United States. In 2010, about 2,320 people lived there. This was a small increase from the year 2000. Timmonsville is part of the larger Florence area.

History of Timmonsville

Timmonsville was started in 1854. It was founded by John Morgan Timmons. He was a Baptist minister. His family had French Huguenot roots.

A historic building called the Smith-Cannon House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This means it is an important place in history.

In 2016, the town government passed a rule. This rule made it against the law to wear pants that were too low. This rule is known as Ordinance 543.

The Florence Motor Speedway is also in Timmonsville. It is a popular place for car racing. It hosts many events, including NASCAR races. This track was built in 1982.

However, high school students now attend West Florence High School or South Florence High School. Johnson Middle School and Timmonsville High School used to be open, but they are now closed.
