History of Timmonsville
Timmonsville was started in 1854. It was founded by John Morgan Timmons. He was a Baptist minister. His family had French Huguenot roots.
A historic building called the Smith-Cannon House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This means it is an important place in history.
In 2016, the town government passed a rule. This rule made it against the law to wear pants that were too low. This rule is known as Ordinance 543.

The Honda Motor Company has a factory in Timmonsville. They make all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) there. They also make multi-use side-by-side vehicles. Some of the vehicles made there include the Four Trax Recon, Four Trax Foreman, and Pioneer models.
The Florence Motor Speedway is also in Timmonsville. It is a popular place for car racing. It hosts many events, including NASCAR races. This track was built in 1982.

Public schools in Timmonsville are managed by Florence County School District 1. Students in elementary school go to Brockington Elementary School.
However, high school students now attend West Florence High School or South Florence High School. Johnson Middle School and Timmonsville High School used to be open, but they are now closed.
