Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast is an animated fantasy film from 2014. It was directed by Steve Loter. This movie is the sixth and final part of the Tinker Bell film series. The story is based on the character Tinker Bell from J. M. Barrie's famous book, Peter and Wendy. It was the last movie made by Disneytoon Studios before it closed in 2018.

Many actors returned to voice their characters. These include Mae Whitman as Tinker Bell, Lucy Liu as Silvermist, Raven-Symoné as Iridessa, and Megan Hilty as Rosetta. Ginnifer Goodwin joined the cast to voice Fawn. Rosario Dawson voiced a new character named Nyx. Singer Mel B voiced Fury in the UK, while Danai Gurira voiced Fury in the US.

Discovering the NeverBeast

Fawn, an animal fairy, loves helping all creatures. One day, she rescues a baby hawk with a broken wing. She and Tinker Bell try to hide it. Fairies are usually afraid of hawks because they can be dangerous. But their secret is found out. Adult hawks come to get the baby, and the scout fairies have to protect everyone.

Queen Clarion tells Fawn that she should use her head, not just her heart. After Fawn helps the baby hawk go home, she hears a strange roar. She flies deep into the forest to find out what it is. She discovers a huge, unusual creature in a cave. It has a thorn stuck in its paw. Fawn tries to help, but the creature blows her away with a powerful snort.

Meeting Gruff

Fawn is determined to help the creature. When it comes out of its cave, she manages to remove the thorn. She realizes the beast is not mean; it's just busy. It moves large rocks and boulders into piles. Fawn watches it and sees it has parts like many animals. It has strong legs for digging and big jaws for carrying rocks. She decides to name him Gruff.

Fawn helps Gruff as he builds four giant rock towers. These towers are placed in each of Pixie Hollow's four seasons. Fawn tries to understand why he is building them.

Nyx's Investigation

Meanwhile, a scout fairy named Nyx also hears the roar. Nyx is very serious about protecting Pixie Hollow. She goes to the fairy lore library to learn about the creature. She finds old, torn pages from an animal book. These pages say that Gruff is a creature that wakes up only once every thousand years. The legend says he will turn into a fierce beast. This beast could destroy Pixie Hollow with a series of events that end in a deadly storm.

A Misunderstanding

Fawn introduces Gruff to Tinker Bell and her friends. She explains that Gruff is friendly, not dangerous. She wants to show him to Queen Clarion. But Nyx has already told the Queen about the scary legend of the NeverBeast. Fawn is worried about the legend, but she believes it's all a big mistake.

Queen Clarion asks Fawn and Nyx to work together to protect Pixie Hollow. Fawn thinks this means moving Gruff to keep him safe from the scouts. Nyx believes it means capturing Gruff to stop the storm.

The Storm and the Sacrifice

The next day, Gruff disappears and changes. He grows wings and horns, just like the legend says. Fawn and Tinker Bell rush to find him before the scouts do. Tinker Bell finds him first, but Gruff accidentally knocks her out. Fawn finds Tinker Bell and is sad, thinking Nyx was right about Gruff. She lets Nyx and the scouts capture Gruff.

Tinker Bell wakes up and explains that Gruff actually saved her from a falling tree. Fawn realizes she was wrong. She and her friends decide to free Gruff.

Saving Pixie Hollow

They successfully free Gruff. Even though he is weak, he and Fawn start a special ritual. The rock towers Gruff built have collected lightning. He flies through each tower, and the lightning goes into his horns. The towers crumble. Nyx destroys the last tower before Gruff can reach it. This stops the plan, and lightning strikes, starting fires everywhere.

When lightning almost hits Nyx, Gruff catches it in his horns and saves her. Nyx finally understands that Gruff is there to save Pixie Hollow from the storm, not destroy it.

There is no time to rebuild the towers. Fawn has a new idea. She leads Gruff high into the sky. He absorbs all the lightning strikes. Then, he flies into the center of the storm, and with a huge blast, the storm ends. Gruff falls to the ground, but the fairies catch him with pixie dust. Gruff's wings are burned, and his horns are small. Fawn is very still and seems lifeless from the impact. Gruff mourns her. As he touches Fawn, lightning sparks through him and into her, bringing her back to life.

Gruff's Long Sleep

For a few days, Gruff helps around Pixie Hollow. He moves large objects. Soon, he starts to feel very tired. It is time for him to go back to sleep for a very long time. The fairies have a gentle ceremony to send him off. They make his cave comfortable with a soft pillow and a straw mattress. There is also a small pool of water that glows softly like a night light. The fairies say goodbye to Gruff. He is content and goes to sleep for another 937 years. Fawn tells his story as the Guardian and Protector of Pixie Hollow.

Why No More Tinker Bell Movies?

After Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast, Disney had plans for a seventh movie. However, in 2014, it was reported that the seventh film was canceled. This was due to problems with the story. Also, Disneytoon Studios, the company that made the Tinker Bell movies, closed down on June 28, 2018.
