Tessellis S.p.A. (which used to be called Tiscali S.p.A.) is an Italian company. It was started in 1998 in Cagliari, Sardinia. This company offers Internet and phone services in Italy. In the past, it also worked in other European countries. It grew by buying many smaller Internet companies in the late 1990s.

Since 2022, Tessellis has taken over all the services that Linkem used to offer. This happened after Tiscali and Linkem joined forces.

History of Tessellis

Tiscali S.p.A. was created in January 1998 in Cagliari. It was founded by Renato Soru. This happened after Italy changed its rules for phone companies. The company got its name from a mountain in Sardinia. An old village was found there.

In 1999, a sister company called Tiscali Italia S.p.A. was started.

From March 1999, Tiscali offered "Tiscali Free Net." This was an Internet service where you only paid for the time you were online. There were no monthly fees. This made other Italian Internet companies drop their fees too. It helped many people in Italy get online.

In November 1999, Tiscali, Franco Bernabè, and Sanpaolo IMI started a company called Andala. In 2000, Andala was bought by Hutchison Whampoa. It then won a bid to offer 3G mobile phone services.

On March 25, 2009, Tiscali launched Tiscali Mobile. This was a mobile phone service that used TIM's network.

In 2012, Tiscali started three new companies:

  • Veesible S.r.l.: This company sells advertising space.
  • indoona S.r.l.: This company created an instant messaging app called indoona.
  • istella S.r.l.: This company worked on a search engine called istella.

On December 30, 2021, Tiscali S.p.A. and Linkem S.p.A. agreed to a plan. Linkem Retail S.r.l. would join Tiscali S.p.A.

On April 27, 2022, the owners of Tiscali and Linkem approved this merger.

On August 1, 2022, the two companies finished joining together. Tiscali S.p.A. took in Linkem Retail S.r.l. Linkem S.p.A. (now called OpNet S.p.A.) became the main owner of Tiscali S.p.A.

In October 2022, Tiscali announced a name change. On January 19, 2023, the main company became Tessellis S.p.A. It still uses the names Tiscali and Linkem for its services.

On February 2, 2024, Wind Tre made a deal to buy parts of OpNet. This included its network. On August 1, 2024, this deal was completed. Wind Tre bought OpNet and its other companies, but not Tessellis.

Becoming a Public Company (IPO)

In 2012, the price of one share had dropped to just 0.04 Euros.

Between 2001 and 2005, Tiscali shares were also traded on the French Stock Exchange. They stopped being traded there in December 2005.
