Tofig Gasimov was an important politician and diplomat from Azerbaijan. He was born on April 10, 1938, and passed away on January 29, 2020. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Azerbaijan.

Early Life and Education
Tofig Gasimov was born in Leki village, located in the Agdash Rayon of Azerbaijan. He went to school in Agstafa city from 1945 to 1955.
After school, he studied at Baku State University from 1955 to 1960. He earned a degree in Physics and Mathematics. He even received a special "Stalin scholarship" for his studies.
After graduating, Tofig Gasimov worked at the Physics Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He continued his studies and earned his PhD in 1969 from the Physics Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1970 onwards, he worked as a scientist in Baku.
Political Journey
Tofig Gasimov became involved in politics starting in 1987. In 1988, he helped create the rules for the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PFA). He was also a leader of this group from 1989 to 1990.
In January 1990, he was chosen to be part of a special committee. This committee investigated the tragic events of "Black January" on January 20, 1990. During this time, he worked to share the truth about what happened. He spoke to many TV and radio channels around the world.
Minister of Foreign Affairs
In May 1992, Tofig Gasimov became the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. He held this important job until April 1993. In this role, he helped Azerbaijan build relationships with other countries.
During his time as minister, he signed an agreement with the United Nations. This agreement helped set up Azerbaijan's official office at the UN.
After his time as minister, Tofig Gasimov tried to become a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament. This was during the elections in November 1995. However, he was not able to run for election.
Later Life and Contributions
Tofig Gasimov wrote almost 100 scientific papers. He also helped start the Baku Scientists Club.
From the late 1990s, he taught at different universities in Turkey. He also continued his scientific research there.
Tofig Gasimov was married and had two children. He could speak English, Russian, and Turkish fluently.
